FLEXform Host Software
Create documents from your enterprise applications quickly and seamlessly
FLEXform Host Software enables users to generate documents from applications by using document templates created with the FLEXform Development Software.
Transparent to your end users
FLEXform documents typically are set up by your IT staff as virtual printers within your applications. Your end users—such as payroll staff—simply request a document from their application the same way they would choose a printer and the data flow transparently into the FLEXform Host Software. The advantages? Fewer points of failure and no need for end-user training.
Because FLEXform Host Software is written in the ANSI C language, your documents are generated quickly and are portable to different operating systems including Windows Server, UNIX, Linux and OpenVMS. So, when you move applications to new platforms FLEXform can move with them, enabling you retain your investment in both the software and document development.
Features of FLEXform Host Software include:
- Data mapping and formatting
- Alternate symbology
- Document distribution and collation
- Document sorting and definition
- Audit file generation
- Intelligent documents
- Document reproduction
The net result is that FLEXform Host Software gives your organization flexibility to define and route documents as needed, and improve its efficiency in document creation and distribution.
Data Mapping and Formatting
FLEXform Development Software-included with FLEXform Host Software—helps your IT staff populate document with content from traditional print files, ASCII flat files, or comma seperated value (CSV) files. The Software lets them map data from a source file into a document template.
The formatting function automatically converts text, numbers and dates captured from the data source and displays it in the document according to the attributes defined in the template.

FLEXform Host Software lets you display data or static strings as bar codes, OCR, or MICR in your documents. A built-in library of popular bar code formats is available for printed or digital documents.
Our Zebra® label interface gives you the option to produce ZPLII labels as standalone documents or dynamically while generating a corresponding document such as a packing slip.
Document Distribution and Collation
Collation and distribution features automate both simple and complex document handling. You can group parts of documents together, or you can separate document parts into individual elements.
You can mix and match the destination of the document parts to print/fax defices or publish as a digital document. For example you may want the customer copy of an invoice printed in the mail room and the sales copy printed in the sales department.
Document Sorting and Definition
Reorder the sequence of documents based on the data that populates them. Sorting documents can improve the efficiency of document handling and reduce costs. For example:
- Sorting mailed documents by postal code can reduce postage fees.
- Sorting by check amount reduces the need to pore through documents to find high value checks that need manual signatures.
Defining document boundaries keeps all of the pages of a document together when printing or generating digital documents.
The Audit feature creates an output file containing information on the documents generated and is often used to create positive pay files for banks in conjunction with printing MICR checks. Other uses include creating an audit trail of documents produced, providing information to outside systems and producing register reports for documents such as checks and invoices.
FLEXform Host Software gives your documents intelligence and enables you to alter the appearance, style, content and destination of documents based on their content. You can define conditions to:
- Include graphics or static text in a document.
- Determine the destination of the document.
- Select printer trays to pull paper from.
- Select printer output bins or mailboxes to send documents to.
- Publish digital documents for electronic delivery via the FLEXform Document Portal.
- Vary the appearance of a document based on its content.
For example, you can specify that a signature graphic displays automatically on checks only when the amount is below a specific value. You can display a “Past Due” watermark on a customer statement when amounts are past due, or go a step further and generate a dunning letter along with the statement.
You can adapt a document to its data and reduce its total pages by specifing conditions to:
- Shrink the typeface and create additional colums for details in the body of a document.
- Display header content on the first page only, and remove or condense header content on subsequent pages.
- Display footer content such as a signature area on the last page of a document.
Finally, FLEXform Host software lets you define reproduction keys from information that populates the document. Documents in a run can be reproduced using the document number or a discreet or a range of reprint key values. The selected documents can then be displayed for review before reproduction.
